This is a list of restaurants based on the Phantom Gourmet TV show. The short version is, in watching the show weekend after weekend, and thinking that there's so many fun looking places to go out and try things at, I finally decided to compile this list of those. I pilfered a copy of the Phantom Gourmet database and went through all 2000+ restaurant listings, and then filtered it down to this list of 1500+, and listed the fun/interesting foods to try in all of them (the list is still in progress).
A food journey works as follows: I select a number of restaurants from the list (usually 2 or 3 different ones at a time), and plan based on the location/region and number of people, various restaurants to go to and get/try the specific food items from the list. I then rate/critique the dishes, to let people know if the location/food is "worth the journey" (an informal phrase that I've coined for this). The food journeys themselves tend to be fun, as many of them introduce people to interesting new places that they may not have gone to on their own. In addition, I'm also rating things based on "best of" in a variety of categories (for random example, best French Onion Soup to date lives at Capital Grille). A more formal list of these will be compiled in the future.
Anyone who is interested! This project has been ongoing for many many years now, and is intended for all you food lovers out there.
The color rating system is a bit informal at the moment. However, the general coding is as follows: Red = places with just one or two items that can be rated in one trip. Yellow = places that are better for a group, or would require multiple trips. Green = a bit more generic, but generally means a "must visit" for either a food item, or some other specific. Pink = food items at this place are dessert items only. Orange = worth the journey for that specific dish, and White = further investigation required (this is mostly for bakeries).
I was hoping you'd ask that..;) If you know of anyone who would enjoy partaking of my ratings, or is just looking for a restaurant in a given area, or you really wanna just give me my 15 minutes, by all means promote this! Feel free to email/post the link to the restaurant page.
That is my intention, but it hasn't gotten there yet. I'm initially thinking of adding interactivity in the form of a blog or some other interactivity, but we'll see how it works out when I have a bit more time. At the moment, the primarily functionality is browser based, and I have added rudimentary search functionality. You can also jump down to a specific starting letter if you're looking for a particular restaurant. This helps at least somewhat when viewing the page on a mobile device. More ease-of-use updates are planned.
You tell me! If there are any other questions that you have or you feel that I should address here, please send me an email.
